Belgian Carcassonne League

Rules

BCL 2026, Belgian Carcassonne League: how the league works

Seasons and format

  • Two seasons a year: spring (2 March to 31 May) and autumn (31 August to 30 November).
  • Round-robin: every player meets every other player in their league once, roughly one duel every two weeks.
  • Every duel is a best of three of basic Carcassonne, real time, on Board Game Arena.
  • Leagues: a Master league (two groups of six with a cross final), a Gold league (6 to 8 players), a Silver league (6 to 8 players) and, with enough players, a Bronze league.

Who can play

  • Belgian nationality or residence in Belgium, and no participation in another country's national online championship or comparable tournament in the same year.
  • One BGA account, your main account, and membership of the BGA group Carcassonne Belgium.
  • Register through the form on this site or by e-mail with your BGA name (and whether it is premium), real name, e-mail, nationality, postal code and municipality.
  • By taking part you agree that games may be streamed and commented on, and that your name and the winner's name may be published.
  • Players are expected to complete all their duels.

League placement

  • New players start in the lowest division unless their peak Elo qualifies them for a higher one (600 or more for Gold, 500 or more for Silver). Players can ask the organisers for a different league; qualification duels may be organised.
  • Once the season has started, placement does not change.

Scheduling and reporting

Shared document: Shared Agenda & Results (Google Sheet)

  • Agree on a date and time with your opponent through the BGA chat and enter it in the shared Google Sheet, in the column of your duel (format DD/MM HH:MM, for example 02/03 19:00). Check the Belgium time column to see that the UTC correction is right. Rescheduling is fine when both agree.

The shared sheet: enter the start time in the green column

  • Standard setup: a closed, invitation-only BGA tournament for 2 players, 3 games, real time with 15 minutes per player, named after both players. A premium player creates it; if neither player is premium, contact the organiser at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Both players register before the start time. A duel started with wrong settings is cancelled and replayed. The third game is not played when the duel is already decided.
  • Results are picked up automatically from BGA. If a result is wrong or a duel could not be played as scheduled, report it through the Enter a result form with the tournament link.

Standings and tiebreaks

  1. Duels won
  2. Difference between games won and lost
  3. Games won
  4. Head-to-head result
  5. Draw

Season final, promotion and relegation

  • The two Master league group winners play a final duel for the title Belgian Carcassonne League Season Champion. Both finalists earn a place in the Team Belgium squad for the next WTCOC. From 2027 on, season champions may also earn Belgian spots in the Carcassonne Champions League qualifiers.
  • The top two of every league are promoted, the bottom two relegated (the last of each Master group). The number of movements may change with the number of new players and is announced at the start of each season.

Conduct

  • Tools, scripts, notes or outside help are forbidden. Violators are expelled and their results may be voided.
  • Tell your opponent in the chat when a tile is discarded automatically.
  • Running out of time loses that game. A no-show loses the duel; games must be entered within about five minutes or the BGA tournament closes.
  • Warnings are given for no-shows or disrespectful behaviour; a second warning means expulsion and possibly suspension from later editions.
  • The organisers may amend the rules during the season with the approval of an independent referee.
