Raf Mesotten takes bronze at the World Championship 2025
This year a record number of 52 players took their chance at the world title in the 19th Carcassonne World Championship in Spielezentrum Herne. Our very own Raf Mesotten (CraftyRaf) made his remarkable debut at the WC. Keeping his nerves well under control, he played an excellent preliminary round, losing only his game against the later winner of the tournament, Chinese player Xiangyu Qin (qazxswedc), by just one point.
In the quarter-finals he beat Kyrylo Manakhov (adrear) from Ukraine to secure a spot in the semi-final against Uruguayan player Horacio Mastandrea (The Alchimist). Unable to overcome an early shortage of city caps, the dream of playing the final came to an unfortunate end. In the battle for third place against the Latvian Carcassonne live-stream phenomenon and former WC runner-up Aleksejs Pegusevs (Alexey_LV), Raf recovered and concluded his tournament day in a very satisfying way: third in the world.
