Wannes Vansina is Belgian champion 2016

For the seventh time the Belgian Carcassonne Championship was played in the Ontmoetingscentrum of Wilsele (Leuven), on Saturday 19 March 2016, with a record field of 97 players. After the preliminary rounds with the base game the top eight met in one-on-one games, and Wannes Vansina (Carcharoth 9) beat Marc Peeters in the final. Renaud Godfraind finished third and Dave Segers fourth.

In October Wannes went on to take bronze at the World Championship in Essen, at his first attempt: he lost his opening game, won the next five, lost the semi-final to Pantelis Litsardopoulos and beat Matej Tabak in the match for third place. It remained the best Belgian result at a World Championship until Raf Mesotten equalled it in 2025. Full results.
